Over 4,000 affected by unfavorable weather

Rains and unfavorable weather play havoc in many parts of the country with landslides and floods.  

The Disaster Management Centre said,that 4432 persons from 1129 families in the five districts of Matale, Kandy, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa and Badulla have been affected. 9 deaths have also been reported. One person is reported to be missing. 86 houses have been completely destroyed while 495 hoses have been partially destroyed

Many roads have become impassable due to flooding, fall of boulders, landslides and fall of trees. These include Polonnaruwa – Batticaloa road, Polonnaruwa – Manampitiya road, Roads in the Somawathiya area, many roads in the Hill country including Kandy-Mahiyangana road, roads in the Hambantota, Moneragala and Ratnapura districts.   
The Deputy Director for media of the Disaster Management Centre Sarath Lal Kumara said that cooked foods are being provided to the affected people through the district secretaries and assistance in this connection has also been obtained from the Sri Lanka Navy.  He said that President Mahinda Rajapakse is keeping in constant touch with the disaster management centre and guiding them on actions to be taken about the situation.
