Kalani, kalu and ging and Nil-wala rivers approach spill over levels
Under the influence of the cyclonic storm ‘Nilam’, South-western parts of the island ( Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces) are receiving heavy rainfalls and it is likely to continue for next 09 hours, The meteorology department said.However,Department said that the cyclonic storm “Nilam” is moving away from Sri Lanka and there is no direct effect to the weather over the island.
The Disaster Management Centre says that there is a threat of floods, since the Kelani, Kalu, Ging and Nilvalaa rivers have reached spill over level due to the prevalent heavy rain weather condition.
The Disaster Management Centre said further that 72000 persons belonging to 18 thousand 187 families are in distress due to the inclement weather.
